Sommelier and owner Carolyn Papetti hails from East Hampton, NY. She lived in Rome for 8 years where she completed her MBA in marketing, and later her sommelier certification. Carolyn has been working in wine at the helm of restaurants, clubs and tourism ever since! With the opening of the Italian Bar, she added quasi- master gelato maker to her resume and her gelato earned top accolades from the Italian Ambassador in 2023!
The Papettis began running restaurants together in 2005. They live in the neighborhood and have two boys, Francesco, and Luca, who are often seen working at Eddie or the Italian Bar!
The Italian Bar, opened in 2022 just a few doors down from I'm Eddie Cano, remains a relatively new concept to the US!
A "bar" in Italy, is a bit of a misnomer in English. It's a place where you go to grab a quick espresso called un caffe' in Rome, tallying six in all by the time the day is up (not all at once mind you!).

It's a gathering place where you run into neighbors, friends and colleagues and you take a quick Blue Zone inspired break from life before you turn around to face it all again!
In addition to the amazing, non-supersized non-syruped Italian coffee, Bars in Italy often have gelato, some alcoholic beverages and some light sandwiches and pastries.
We are super proud that the Italian Ambassador in 2023 said we have the best pistacchio gelato in DC.
Pistacchio is a benchmark flavor in Italy, a bit like vanilla here, and to earn that accolade was a huge, and proud moment for our tiny team!
Now, if you're wondering where Italians go to "drink drink" that's easy, they go to an American Bar (pronounced I'm Eddie Can Bahrrrr). Not kidding on either front!
We opened in May of 2022 and service is built into all pricing except alcohol drinks and sandwiches/pizza. On these two categories alone, we do add a 20% hospitality charge to every check.
There are signs across the Italian Bar that state this and also on our QR code menu.
Again, no additional line is left on the credit card bill prompting for additional tipping. If patrons, wish to leave an extra cash tip, they may, but it is not expected.
Inspired by Massimo's home city and Carolyn's Eternal Citta!
